Field Application Engineer

Norse Navigation is developing a new generation of certified navigation products for the maritime industry. We are now looking for a practical and technically curious Field Application Engineer who enjoys working at the intersection of customers, product development and real-world vessel operations.

This is an on-site position based at our office in Trondheim. Due to the practical nature of the role, including work with test facilities, hardware and product installations, remote work is not available.

This is not a traditional field service role. You will have a varied working day and take part in everything from vessel installations and customer troubleshooting to internal test campaigns, product verification and the development of new test systems.

One week you may be commissioning equipment onboard a vessel. The next, you may be investigating a technical issue together with our development team, improving an internal test setup or contributing to a new product feature.

Your experience from the field will directly influence how our products, installation methods and documentation are developed.

• Install, commission and troubleshoot Norse Navigation products onboard vessels
• Support customers, system integrators and installation partners
• Prepare installation, commissioning and test documentation
• Plan and carry out internal and external test campaigns
• Maintain and further develop internal test facilities and demonstrators
• Support product verification, certification and system integration
• Contribute to smaller engineering, scripting and development tasks

You have a practical technical background, preferably with a relevant trade certificate combined with a technical college degree, bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

Relevant backgrounds may include electrical, electronics, automation, maritime systems or telecommunications.

You should:

• Be comfortable working with and troubleshooting Linux-based systems
• Have experience with installation, testing or fault-finding
• Understand basic electronics, networks and technical documentation
• Communicate well with both customers and engineers
• Be structured, hands-on and comfortable taking ownership of technical issues
• Be willing to travel and work onboard vessels when required
• Be able to communicate professionally in both Norwegian and English

Maritime experience is an advantage, but not a requirement. Experience with GNSS, navigation equipment, Ethernet, serial communication, Python or Bash is also a plus.
