Application Engineer
A hands-on, technically curious role working closely with product development, customers and vessels.
Norse Navigation is developing a new generation of navigation products for the maritime industry. We are now looking for a practical and technically curious Application Engineer who wants a broad role working closely with product development, customers and vessels.
With us, you won't be confined to one narrow part of the product. You will work with everything from testing and system integration to installation, troubleshooting and further development of our products.
One week you may be onboard a vessel commissioning a new system. The next, you may be working with the development team to track down the root cause of a technical issue, improve a test setup or contribute to a new product feature.
The experience you gain out with customers and in hands-on testing will help shape our products, our installation methods and the way we work.
This is a permanent, full-time position based at our office in Trondheim. The role involves hands-on work with hardware, test equipment and vessels, and some travel should be expected.
What you will do
- Install, commission and troubleshoot our products
- Follow up customers, system integrators and installation partners
- Plan and carry out internal and external test campaigns
- Build and further develop test setups, demonstrators and test facilities
- Contribute to product verification, certification and system integration
- Prepare installation, test and technical documentation
- Contribute to smaller development tasks, scripting and technical improvements
- Bring experience from customers and vessels directly back into product development
Who we are looking for
First and foremost, we are looking for someone who likes to understand how things work, make them work, and figure out why they don't when something goes wrong.
You may have a background in electrical engineering, electronics, automation, IT, telecommunications, maritime systems or similar. A relevant trade certificate, technical college degree, bachelor's degree or equivalent experience are all good starting points.
We think you'll be a good fit if you:
- Are hands-on and enjoy working with both hardware and software
- Have experience with installation, testing or troubleshooting
- Are comfortable with Linux-based systems
- Have a basic understanding of electronics, networks and technical documentation
- Communicate well with both customers and developers
- Work independently and take ownership of technical issues
- Are able to travel and work onboard vessels when required
- Have strong command of both Norwegian and English
Experience from the maritime industry is an advantage, but not a requirement. The same applies to experience with GNSS, navigation systems, Ethernet, serial communication, Python or Bash.
What matters most is that you are technically curious, learn quickly and thrive in a varied working day.
What we offer
- A broad technical role with significant responsibility
- The opportunity to shape our products while they are still being developed
- Close collaboration with an experienced team and leading maritime players
- A working environment with short decision paths and little bureaucracy
- A competitive total compensation package with high upside
- Participation in Norse Navigation's employee option programme, so you get to share in the value you help create
This is a role for someone who wants something broader than a traditional developer, service or engineering position - and who finds it exciting to help build both the products and the company around them.
